A visit to Tainan

This morning my host family and I took the Taiwan High Speed Rail from Taichung to the southern city of Tainan. The total trip time was a little under an hour, as the train is capable of speeds around 300km/h. After arriving in Tainan, we met the Taiwanese Legislative leader Wang Jin-Pyng in the train station (kind of like Taiwan's John Boehner). We weren't able to get a picture with him because he needed to make a train, but my host (Peter) and his mom were quite impressed to see him out and about. In Tainan we shopped at some street stores and a department store before taking a taxi to meet up with some other students and their hosts. We saw a massive tree house which was made into a museum. To combat the humidity of Tainan, we bought some black tea ice cream (it was delicious). Afterwords we went to a gift shop and stopped at a coffee shop to cool down and grab a drink. From there we moved on to a street market, where we bought sunglasses, seafood, candied strawberries and more. After we went our separate ways, I met Peter's grandmother, aunts, uncles, and cousins. We went out for a big dinner consisting of everything from octopus, shrimp, crab eggs, boiled chicken, fruit, and fried scallops (exactly like the US ones) before retiring to Peter's family's house for the night.
